Frequently Asked Questions
If your question isn't answered here, please don't hesitate to get in touch. There's no such thing as a silly question.
Hypnotherapy combines talking therapy with guided relaxation (trance). During trance, your mind enters a focused, calm state where it's more receptive to positive suggestions and new ways of thinking. It's not about being "put under" or losing control — you remain fully aware throughout. Solution-focused hypnotherapy specifically works by helping you imagine your preferred future, which encourages the brain to create new, positive neural pathways.
Absolutely. Clinical hypnotherapy is a well-established, evidence-based practice. You cannot be made to do anything against your will, and you're fully in control throughout every session. Trance is actually a natural state that you experience every day — when you're absorbed in a book or daydreaming, for example. I'm registered with the AfSFH and adhere to strict professional and ethical guidelines.
This varies depending on what you're looking for help with. Smoking cessation is typically a single 2-hour session. Phobias often resolve in 3–4 sessions. For anxiety, stress, or weight management, a course of 6–10 sessions is most common. We'll discuss a realistic plan during your free initial consultation and review progress regularly.
Your first session is slightly longer and focused on understanding your goals. I'll explain how the brain creates patterns of behaviour and how hypnotherapy works to change them. You'll then experience your first guided relaxation — most people find this deeply calming and enjoyable. There's no pressure to share anything you're not comfortable with.
No, not at all. Hypnotic trance is a state of focused attention, not unconsciousness. You'll be aware of everything happening around you and can open your eyes or stop the session at any time. Many clients describe the experience as similar to the feeling just before falling asleep — deeply relaxed but still aware.
Yes. I understand that fitting appointments around work and family commitments can be challenging. I offer select evening appointments and Saturday morning sessions. These slots are popular, so I recommend booking early to secure your preferred time.
Yes — all of my services are available online via secure video call. Online sessions are just as effective as face-to-face, and many clients prefer the convenience and comfort of being in their own space. You just need a quiet room and a stable internet connection.
The easiest way is to use the contact form on this website, or you can call or email me directly. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation for new clients, so you can ask any questions and see if we're a good fit before committing to an appointment.
